Director of Metadata Analysis and Management, MARCIVE, Inc.

Overview of responsibilities & duties:
Oversee the services and employees in cataloging, authorities and GPO services to ensure MARCIVE services are up-to-date and accurate; Assist with responding to customers’ questions/issues and potential customer’s RFPs; Work closely with the Development and Marketing departments to keep them informed;
Actively participates in the development, evaluation, and implementation of cataloging and metadata policies, standards, goals, procedures;
Assist with maintaining the integrity of the bibliographic and authorities databases;
Maintain an awareness of current issues and trends in cataloging and metadata management, including new cataloging rules and formats.

Minimum requirements:
*Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program;
*Minimum of one to two (1-2) years of MARC21 cataloging experience in an academic or large public library setting (Five or more years cataloging experience may substitute for MLS);
*Demonstrated descriptive metadata expertise including MARC/RDA and one or more non-MARC metadata formats;
*Knowledge of nationally accepted cataloging standards;
*Familiarity with authority control;
*Experience with an automated library system and discovery layers, OCLC procedures, and with library technology in general;
*Familiarity with Linked Data developments;
*Experience with MS Word, Access and Excel;
*Must be able to work on-site in San Antonio, TX.

Highly desirable characteristics:
*Knowledge of LC subject headings and classification schedules, and other ontologies and taxonomies,
*Demonstrated knowledge of basic organizational, descriptive, structural metadata standards and best practices, such as RDA, AACR2, MARC21, thesauri, controlled vocabulary, identity disambiguation;
*Experience with an automated library system and discovery layers, OCLC procedures, and with library technology in general;
*Analytical skills, excellent communication skills (both oral and written), organization skills, attention to detail; project management skills;
*Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team; emphasizing a good balance between quality and productivity;
*Familiarity with The MARC of Quality, and RDA Toolkit, and other metadata bulk editing tools.

Responsibilities:
*Review current and developing bibliographic/authorities services and workflows for improved practices;
*Remain current with cataloging issues and standards, metadata standards and librarianship including Linked Data developments;
*Evaluate the potential use of new services and technologies;
*Review authorities processing projects;
*Supervision of projects and employees in Production;
*Participate in cataloging & data management discussions through listservs, email, live online talks and conference attendance;
*Participate in national library association conferences as appropriate for this position;
*Attendance at the national conferences which includes attending meetings, assisting in the exhibit hall booth, participation on committees and working groups, and serving as ALA Interest Groups and Division chairs.

Compensation:  Commensurate with experience.

Education:  Bachelor’s degree.  MLS.  Appropriate work experience may be substituted for degree(s).
