MARCIVE Company History

Written by Emily Garner on June 17, 2010. Posted in About us

I

ncorporated in 1981, MARCIVE, Inc. specializes in high quality, cost effective MARC bibliographic and authorities processing for libraries. Early products included customized catalog cards, microfiche catalogs, and CD-ROM catalogs, with an emphasis on providing time and money savings for libraries.

As technologies have changed and the needs of libraries have grown, MARCIVE has responded. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, MARCIVE was approached by librarians who wanted a better way to incorporate US government documents into their catalogs. The result of these conversations was a multiyear project with librarians from Texas A&M University, Rice University, and Louisiana State University to deduplicate, correct, and enhance data generated by the US Government Printing Office (GPO). For over 20 years we have worked with depositories and the GPO to develop useful products and services to manage depository receipts. As more documents have gone electronic MARCIVE has developed our services to increase discoverability of government documents and reduce workload.

Authority control is an integral part of every service we offer, and has been since the 1980s. We offer everything to make your catalog better: authorities processing, brief record upgrade, and other customized services.

Our goal is to help librarians do their jobs more efficiently and effectively and provide easy access to their collections. We work with all types of libraries and look forward to learning more about yours and how we can be of assistance.
